Media Advisory: Vice President Kamala Harris to Discuss Gun Violence Prevention With Mayors From Communities Across America

January 17, 2024

On Thursday, January 18, Vice President Harris will participate in a moderated conversation about gun violence prevention at the U.S. Conference of Mayors' Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C. The Vice President will highlight the latest actions by the Biden-Harris Administration to reduce gun violence and once again call on Congress and state legislators to pass commonsense gun safety laws. The conversation will be moderated by Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas.

Vice President Harris continues to lead on addressing the epidemic of gun violence while overseeing the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Last week, she announced $285 million in funding to help schools across the country hire and train mental health professionals. The funding is a result of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years and the single largest investment in student mental health in history. Last month, the Vice President also convened nearly 100 state legislators from 39 states to launch the Biden-Harris Administration's Safer States Initiative, which will provide states with additional tools and support to advance commonsense gun safety initiatives and save lives in communities throughout the nation.

Media interested in covering the Vice President's 2:00 p.m. ET moderated conversation at the Capital Hilton should RSVP HERE by 6:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 17.
