Executive Order 8478—Authorizing Certain Appointments to Positions in the Welfare Unit, Public Buildings Administration, Federal Works Agency, Without Regard to the Civil Service Rules

July 10, 1940

By virtue of the authority vested in me by the provisions of paragraph Eighth of subdivision SECOND of section 2 of the Civil Service Act (22 Stat. 403, 404), it is hereby ordered that the following appointments, effective as of July 1, 1940, may be made in the Welfare Unit, Public Buildings Administration, Federal Works Agency, without compliance with the competitive requirements of the Civil Service Rules:

     Mrs. Clara H. Beach to a position of Senior Welfare Worker.
     Miss Anna R. Joyce to a position of Assistant Welfare Worker.
     Mrs. Augusta C. Adams to a position of Under Clerk-Typist.
     Mr. Charles A. Mason to a position of Chauffeur.

This order is recommended by the Federal Works Administrator and concurred in by the Civil Service Commission.
