Vice Presidential Pool Reports of May 6, 2024

Good morning from an overcast day at Joint Base Andrews!

I'm Eric Garcia, and I'll be your pooler for the Vice President's trip to Detroit. Below is an itinerary

10:30 AM, the Vice President will depart Washington from JBA. The departure will be pooled press
12:00 PM, the Vice President will arrive in Detroit Michigan at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The arrival will be pooled press and open to pre-credentialed media.
1:55 PM: the Vice President will deliver remarks during the second stop of her nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour. These remarks will be pooled press, open to pre-credentialed media, and livestreamed at WhiteHouse.gov/live.
5:30 PM: The Vice President will depart from Detroit via Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The departure will be pooled press
6:45: The Vice President will arrive in Washington, DC. This arrival at Joint Base Andrews will be pooled press.

The vice President arrived at JBA around 10:58 AM and was greeted by this delegation. We are set to take off.

Upon arrival at JBA, the Vice President was greeted by Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Deputy Secretary Don Graves, and Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed.

Wheels touched down at 12:23 PM at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

Upon arrival in Detroit, MI, the Vice President was greeted by U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist, and Ellen Gilchrist, Spouse of Lt. Governor Gilchrist.

The VP and her team made a pitstop around 1:05 pm at Joe Louis Southern Kitchen on Woodward Avenue in Detroit. The Vice president spoke with supporters and the owners of the establishment. Multiple staffers shot video of the Vice president.

As the vice president exited Joe Louis Southern Kitchen, Vice President Kamala Harris did not respond to questions from reporters about the fact Hamas accepted a ceasefire deal.

The event began at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History at around 1:40.

Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilrchrist delivered the introduction for Vice President and touted the Biden-Harris administrations promoting previously economically disenfranchised communities.

US Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves spoke afterward.

The audience is largely-African American. The venue is packed.

Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, a former governor of Michigan, received whoops and cheers when she took the stage and announced the Workforce Readiness Accelerator for Major Projects (RAMP) Fellowship.

Granholm got a huge applause when she said "you guys are killing it" when talking about electrification.

US Labor Acting Secretary Julie Su took the stage after. Received a huge applause when she talked about the United Auto Workers' contract it achieved.

The Cass Technical High School Marching Band played ahead of the Vice President's arrival.

Vice President was introduced by Ron Busby Sr. of US Black Chambers. He touted the VP being the "only Black and female vice president"

The Vice President received a huge applause when she under a new Biden program said that medical debt cannot be counted against someone's credit score. She also noted how the Biden administration forgave more than $160 billion in student loans.

Closes by saying:

She received huge applause as she exited the stage to Beyonce's "Freedom"

We're holding in the van waiting for the vice president to leave.

The Vice president made brief remarks saying
"This morning I was on the call between the president and prime minister Netanyahu. We are closely tracking what is happening on the ground. And my team is keeping me updated and I have nothing further at this time."

We are back in the van waiting to leave.

We are holding outside the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center where the Vice President is speaking at a conference for the United Food & Commercial Workers. The event is closed press.

We're moving toward the airport.

We are about to do wheels up from Detroit. The Vice president arrived at 5:9. The VP did not respond to a question about the American troop in Russia.
