A setup for a band is present and right now the loudspeakers are playing a mix of R&B hits. Hundreds of white chairs are arranged on the lawn and hundreds more people are milling about and sampling refreshments that include hot dogs, chips, drinks and other goodies. In-town pool 8: POTUS remarks POTUS took the stage at 9:03 pm. His brief remarks were live-streamed. "The White House lawn has never seen anything like this before," was his opener. POTUS saluted the artists performing tonight and praised all those who helped make it possible for Juneteenth to become a national holiday. He said he was "proud" to have signed it into law. But POTUS also warned about "old ghosts in new clothes" trying to take away rights and erase Black history. He then recalled his just-concluded visit to France for the D-Day commemorations and singled out Black units who fought there - and particularly one man, slain civil rights icon Medgar Evers. He then continued with his usual cry of America's best days being ahead. He wrapped at 9:09 pm. VP Harris spoke earlier in the evening before the music began. She touted a national effort to register voters on Juneteenth itself. And later, she was pulled up on stage to briefly dance with gospel singer Kirk Franklin. The concert is ongoing with our closing act, Charlie Wilson. Among the other bold-faced names spotted in the crowd: actor Billy Porter, talk show host Tavis Smiley and NBA big man Karl Anthony-Towns. |

Once the music stopped, POTUS took the mic at 9:29 pm and bid the crowd good night. The president and the performers all then filed off the stage, ending the show. |
