(1) Lyndon B. Johnson chose to deliver a "State of the Union" Address as his farewell in 1969.
(2) Richard Nixon's resignation announcement is often considered to be his "farewell" address. The next day he delivered a farewell to the White House staff. Those remarks may be considered by some to be his "farewell", and although the remarks were broadcast to the nation, the remarks are directed to his staff.
